My Baking Essentials


Welcome to my messy, cluttered pantry!  The first step to scratch baking is to stock you pantry with the essentials.  Nothing is worse than wanting to make chocolate chip cookies and not having any flour or chocolate chips.  In my pantry, you can always find 3 different kinds of cocoa powder, oat bran, rolled oats, and a million different extracts (lemon, orange, and raspberry, just to name a few).  As you can see, I even have enough sugar and flour in bins to make 50 cakes.  I know I have a problem!  Your pantry doesn't have to be this extreme, but you should at least have some of these essentials.  Take a look at the list below.  Are you ready to bake?

Refrigerator:
  • Unsalted Butter 
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Buttermilk
  • Sour Cream
Pantry:
  • All-Purpose flour
  • Sugars (granulated, brown, and powdered sugar)
  • Cocoa powder
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Vegetable shortening
  • Vegetable oil
  • Extracts: vanilla, almond, etc.
  • Table salt
  • Ground Spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Unsweetened chocolate
  • Nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts are most used)
Equipment:
  • Mixer (hand or stand mixer are useful)
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatulas
  • Mixing bowls
  • Dry and liquid measuring cups and spoons
  • Medium loaf pans
  • Cookie Sheets
  • 9 x 13 sheet pans
